Law Firm Appoints New Mideast Head

Islamic finance specialist to head up King & Spalding’s Middle East operation.

King & Spalding has appointed a new managing partner to head up its Middle East offices.

Jawad I. Ali will be responsible for the firm’s practices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Riyadh. He has more than 15 years legal experience in Islamic finance and corporate and investment matters, covering M&A, Shari’ah-compliant financing and real estate, and private equity funds.

Ali, currently partner and deputy head of King & Spalding’s Middle East operation, takes over from Philip R. Weems who is returning to the firm’s Houston, Texas office to continue his role as co-head of the global energy practice.

The firm has more than 30 lawyers in the Middle East, advising on commercial, corporate and financial transactions. Their work also covers energy industry-related matters.
